Rosa Van Parys

Design Principal, LEED AP

Rosa Van Parys is co-founder and principal designer at VPA+D.

Rosa’s professional history includes working for DMJM design, AECOM, AC Martin Partners Inc., in downtown Los Angeles; and Hersh Vitallini and Corazzini in Miami, where she gained valuable experience as part of commercial, single and multi-family residential projects.

As the Design Principal of VPA+D, Rosa leads the architecture and interior design studios of the firm. Her designs and projects are recognized for being innovative and cutting edge, with the ability of adapting timeless architecture into today’s life. Her understanding of architectural history and styles, materials and scale, building form, the importance of light and natural conditions, has resulted in creative architectural solutions that are timeless and transcend architectural trends.

Each project is the opportunity for new ideas, to challenge herself and the clients to push the envelope and to reinforce her belief that architecture is visual art. Her passion is the holistic approach to design that starts from a concept, develops into architecture, continues into interior design -surface material selection and product specification- and ends in furnishings, art and home decor. Rosa enjoys working closely with her clients to create their dreams.

Rosa attended the School of Architecture at Catholic University of Ecuador before entering the University of Southern California, where she received her Masters degree in Building Science. She also earned a second Master’s degree in design from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. Additionally, Rosa earned a diploma of general studies in plastic arts from Paul Valery University in Montpellier. Rosa is also an Accredited Professional in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional  (LEED AP).

Michael Van Parys, AIA

Architect, LEED AP

Michael Van Parys is co-founder and principal architect at VPA+D.

Michael is skilled in implementing green strategies and transforming projects into energy-efficient and sustainable buildings. He consulted for numerous design firms and owners creating sustainable buildings and helps implement those concepts during construction.

He has given workshops to companies such as: A.C. Martin Partners Inc., Brandow & Johnson, Togawa Smith Martin Residential Inc as well as teaching at UCLA extension for continuing education credits.  Mr. Van Parys has been the sustainable consulting architect on two of the largest and greenest homes in the country.  Both residences achieved LEED Platinum certification, the highest level available, and near net zero operations and maintenance. Michael is a LEED AP and a Green Rater.

Michael’s interest for architecture derives from his passion for materials and methods.  He focuses on details, behavior of materials and their durability.  At VPA+D he works closely with the contractors assisting with the more complicated and custom installations to provide the client with the best possible outcome.  Michael collaborates with all the professionals needed to complete a construction document set including mechanical, electrical and plumbing consultants.  Michael’s knowledge of the permit process and dealing with government agencies helps facilitate the project schedule.
